Inside an Adventure Idea

Every creature comes with its own adventure. Read it, then tell it in your own words.

Brum, the Mossback Troll, sitting beside the stone bridge with his branch staff

The Bridge That Wouldn’t Budge

Mossback Troll · Rivers & Marshlands

The Situation

Brum the troll blocks the mill-road bridge. Flour waits on one bank and the baker waits on the other. Neither, Brum insists, is his problem.

The Problem

Workers repaired the bridge with stones from Brum’s shelter. Now his roof leaks and his sleeping moss is soaked, and he wants his stones back.

The Twist

The miller has spare stones to offer, but Brum refuses to take someone else’s property, and his shouting stops anyone from explaining.

Where the Adventure Could Go

  1. Investigate the shelter and hear both sides.
  2. Agree who will repair it and when, so Brum can open the crossing meanwhile.
  3. Move stones with magic or waterproof the roof while Brum lifts the heaviest pieces.

Possible Endings

Repair the shelter, broker an agreement or find Brum a home he likes. Treated fairly, he may become the bridge’s caretaker, with an enormous sign: ONE CART AT A TIME.

How It Plays

Kindness, Courage and Clever Plans

When the outcome is uncertain, a quick Challenge game decides what happens next.

  • Red Hands

A gentle reaction game. Tap the Storyteller’s hands before they move away.

  • Dice

Hero and Storyteller each roll once. The higher number wins.

  • Rock Paper Scissors

Count in together. One winning round settles the moment.

Combat is always optional. Conversation, spells, helpful actions and clever plans can solve every adventure in the book. Sparks are energy and determination, never injuries.

Questions, Answered

Do I need other House of Heroes books?

No. The manual works on its own, and its creatures and adventures also fit into any House of Heroes Adventure.

What ages is it for?

Ages 4–11. The book includes tips for both younger Heroes (4–6) and older ones (7–11), so every encounter can match your child.

Can two children play together?

Yes. It’s written for one or two Heroes. Each adventure lists Sparks for one Hero and for two, and the children take turns so both get a useful part.

Is there fighting in it?

Only if your family wants it. Conversation, spells, helpful actions and clever plans can solve every adventure. Sparks stand for energy and determination, never injuries.

I’m a subscriber. Do I already get it?

Yes. The Remarkable Encounters Manual is included in your Month 2 box, so there’s no need to buy it separately.
